In this month’s digital learning segment, we talk with Stephanie Sandifer, an educational technology expert and author of the bestselling book, Wikis for School Leaders. Based on her work in the field, Stephanie believes that students are not nearly as skilled with technology as many teachers perceive them to be, and, more importantly, far too many of our teachers are not prepared to help our students develop the skills that are needed. There is a critical need for education leaders at all levels to make this a priority if we want to have any hope of changing what is occurring in the classroom. If teachers don’t know how to use technology then classroom use of the tools will be not be authentic (at best) or will only be used in teacher-centered ways (at worst) which is what Stephanie tends to see in her work.
