Communication between teachers and school leaders can be one of the most frustrating aspects of an administrator’s day, but this doesn’t have to be the case, according to Shelly Arneson, author of the new book, Communicate and Motivate: The School Leader’s Guide to Effective Communication. Shelly is an elementary school principal in Florida and regularly presents workshops on the communication issues common to schools. In this segment, she discusses some of the most important skills needed to communicate effectively with staff and colleagues.

Shelly Arneson is a principal at an elementary school and is pursuing her doctorate in education. She lives with her husband Dave and their three Labrador Retrievers in Niceville, Florida. She has presented workshops on leadership and communication at ASCD and enjoys writing fiction as well as educational books.
