The point of the Common Core State Standards is to turn out students who are better prepared for college and careers, but what does that really mean for students and teachers? Ben Johnson, Principal of Southside High School in San Antonio, Texas and author of the book, Teaching Students to Dig Deeper: The Common Core in Action, joins us to talk about why students must learn how to be curious and opportunistic to meet these new standards. Schools have socialized kids to think there is always a right answer, Johnson says, and teachers need to change how they teach so they stop being seen as the arbiter of what is right or wrong.

Ben Johnson is a school principal in San Antonio, TX. He has 28 years of experience in education as a teacher, district administrator and university program manager. He also teaches online for the University of Phoenix's teacher- and principal-preparation program.
